About the job

We're seeking a motivated Portfolio Manager to join our dynamic and growing investment team at Sidekick. In this role, you will be responsible for executing trades, managing index portfolios, and supporting the development of innovative, data-driven investment strategies.

This position offers a unique opportunity to shape Sidekick’s approach to unlocking the financial advantages typically reserved for the ultra-wealthy, with a focus on tax optimisation, cost-efficiency, and personalisation.

Responsibilities

  • Trade Execution: Execute baskets of buy and sell orders across multiple asset classes, including stocks, ETFs, bonds, and new cash management products such as money market funds.

  • Portfolio Management: Manage and reconcile portfolio positions, ensuring accuracy and alignment with our expanded suite of investment options, powered by Interactive Brokers (IBKR).

  • Investment Research: Conduct both fundamental and quantitative research to identify compelling investment opportunities, including developing thematic, curated micro-indexes and sector-specific stock baskets that reflect Sidekick’s personalised portfolio approach.

  • Direct Indexing & Tax Loss Harvesting: Utilise IBKR Trader Workstation to implement direct indexing and tax loss harvesting strategies, with plans to bring these processes in-house to further enhance customisation and tax efficiency.

  • Market Analysis: Stay up-to-date with market trends, including developments in public markets, to support Sidekick’s expanded offerings and drive portfolio innovation.

  • External Representation: Act as an ambassador for Sidekick, engaging with clients and media to communicate our investment insights, portfolio updates, and new offerings like ISAs, money market funds, personalised portfolios.

  • Compliance: Ensure ongoing adherence to FCA requirements, including meeting Fitness & Propriety standards under the Senior Manager & Certification Regime (SM&CR).

About you

  • Academic & Professional Background: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field, with 5-10 years of experience in financial operations, trading, equity research, or portfolio management. CFA qualification is preferred.

  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of financial markets, investment principles, and hands-on experience with trade execution, portfolio management, and financial modelling. Familiarity with IBKR Trader Workstation is a plus.

  • Analytical Skills: Skilled in quantitative analysis and data-led portfolio construction, with the ability to screen and build sector-specific stock baskets that reflect Sidekick’s personalised portfolio vision.

  • Communication: Exceptional communication skills, with an ability to clearly articulate complex investment insights both internally and externally through modern media formats.

  • Collaborative Mindset: Excited about working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team at a technology startup, with a commitment to helping Sidekick challenge industry norms.
